“It seems that members of your branches may not fully understand our approach to licensing the badge and the new web registry:
The right to use the title ‘MCT registered therapist’ is granted upon successful completion of MCTI training, and this right remains unchanged. Everyone who has completed LvL 1 training can call themselves “MCTI registered therapist®”, so this will not be affected by the introduction of the badge and the new web registry.
Given the emergence of other institutes claiming to offer a “level 5” in MCT, it is crucial to protect the brand and inform the public about who has the authorized training and qualifications. Your diploma certifies that you are an MCTI registered therapist, and the badge can be used publicly to show your authorization. The badge is verified by the web registry to help people find qualified MCT therapists. We will ensure that the license to use the badge and be listed on the web registry is not misused.
Regarding the registration fee: Any registration process requires funding as it involves resources such as maintaining an updated register, ensuring compliance with GDPR, contacting people, setting up and running an online system, handling inquiries and complaints, and protecting the title. MCTI has covered these costs so far, but with the increasing number of registrants worldwide and growing regulatory requirements, we need funding to continue this work.
Therefore, we will be charging a modest fee to help cover these costs going forward. However, it is up to each therapist to decide whether they want the license to use the badge and be listed on our website—this is not mandatory, but it is advisable!
The ongoing work in the branches and memberships will not be affected by this process. However, in the future, the services for the registry of the therapists will be linked to the main MCT website, indicating the nationality of the therapist.
We hope this clarifies our actions and how we believe this will benefit patients seeking MCT, employers looking to hire therapists, and therapists themselves, who recognize the importance of maintaining a publicly accessible database and their professional profile supported by MCTI.
We are sending our response to the Swedish branch, but also to all branches – and we hope that the branches can work to clarify things for their members and other affiliated LvL 1 therapists, as the work to protect the MCT brand should be in everybody’s interest!
Best regards
